Your responsibility does not end after installing security doors and windows. Regular maintenance is required to keep the screens in good condition for a long time.

Cleaning your screens might not be something you do on a regular basis. However, it should be done at least once a week if you want your security windows and doors to look great for years. Factors such as the size and material will determine how to clean your security screens safely.

Below are general tips on how to clean and maintain your security screens safely:

Do not wait until your security screens are totally broken for you to call a professional for repairs. Broken screens will not do their job of protecting you and your family from burglaries or wandering wildlife.

It is advisable that you have professionals inspect your security doors and windows regularly. This way, they will be able to detect any defects and repair them on time. Some of the crucial security screen repairs include door re-wiring, replacement of locks and replacement of hinges.

Cleaning Products

The location of your security screens is a crucial factor to consider when choosing the cleaning products to use. This is because the location will determine how much dirt the screens are exposed to. To remove simple dirt, clean the screen with water, mild soap and a soft cloth.

If you reside in humid or coastal regions, make sure that you use cleaning products that are effective in removing salt and preventing corrosion. Consult your distributor or installer if you are not sure which cleaning products would be suitable for your security screens.

Cleaning Tools

Never use a hard-bristled brush to clean your security screens as it will scratch their surface, giving them an unpleasant appearance. Instead, use a brush with soft bristles. Consider using gloves to clean the grooves and crevices. While at it, do not forget to clean the frames and corners of the screens as well.

Using a soft-bristled brush ensures that you clean every small gap and corner of the screens. When using gloves, make sure that you dip them in the wash and wax mixture. Regular maintenance reduces the chances of the screens weakening.

Preventative Measures

If not cleaned properly, security screens with powder-coated aluminium frames can lose their appealing finish. To prevent that from happening, ensure that you regularly clean the frames with clean water and a mild detergent.

Your screens will be more exposed to contaminants such as industrial pollutants and salt if they are in an open location. For such a case, the screens should be thoroughly cleaned every three months or so.
